If you’re like me and have a weird imagination, you’ll agree that going to a BYOB restaurant makes you feel like you’re getting away with a crime, amirite?
That’s what I thought.
Anyhow, sometimes finding a great BYOB on the fly is tough, so I’ve compiled a list of my faves for your drinking and dining pleasure:
Sea Dog
BYOB concepts are typically found in sushi restaurants, so it’s no surprise that at least one tops my list. Sea Dog is a fantastic choice for a nice-but-affordable sushi meal, with NO corkage fee! The Lover Roll and the Spicy Alaska King Crab Roll are some of my must-haves, as well as the spicy miso soup. Pro tip: make a reservation at Sea Dog before you go–this place fills up fast!
Whisk
Brunch by day, burgers by night–what more could you want? Whisk is gem located in the Ukranian Village and offers some of the most fun and creative burgers I’ve seen yet. The Ron Swanson-themed restaurant (yes, really) has a dozen burgers including The Chorizo Burger, The Canadian, and of course, The Ron Swanson–a burger wrapped in a pound of bacon.
Angry Crab
This place. There are so few words that truly encompass how phenomenal Angry Crab is. I mean, cajun food–shrimp, calamari, crawfish, and MUCH more–literally plopped in front of you in giant plastic bags for you to just DIG IN. Wear the bib they provide and get messy, cuz Angry Crab is a treat for any taste bud. The best part? You can customize your order with a variety of sauces and a level of spiciness. Pro tip: Bring a few friends because you order your food by the pound!
90 Miles Cuban Cafe
Oh how I love 90 Miles….the ambience, the food, and the casual vibe create an authentically fun dining experience. My favorite dishes include the Ropa Vieja, the Pollo A La Plancha, and the Bistec De Palomilla. They take reservations as well, and the space is fantastic for larger groups–request the amazing patio if you can!
Big & Littles
Tacos, and burgers, and gyros, oh my! Big & Littles has something for everyone at two locations in Chicago and you can’t go wrong with anything you choose. From sandwiches to seafood, to everything in between, whatever you’re in the mood for, Big & Littles has it. I highly recommend the grilled mahi tacos, the Zeus Burger, and the delectable truffle fries.
Crisp
I’ve talked about Crisp on this blog before, and there’s a reason–it’s BOMB. Head to Lakeview for some Korean BBQ (would you just look at those ginormous wings?!) and a bowl and have yourself a merry little BYOB kinda day.
