While everyone has their favorite spots, one of the best things about living in Chicago is the chance to check out brand new bars, restaurants, and venues that pop up seemingly weekly. Summer 2016 has been no different with some of the coolest places opening this city has scene!
From ping pong to patios, check out the new kids on the block and savor the summer (and fall, and winter…seriously, these places are BOMB):
Looking for amazing food with a side activity? Head to AceBounce, located in the heart of the Loop, where you can grab delicious pizzas, seafood, apps and more while knocking out a few rounds of ping pong. The mussels and tuna tartare were to die for, and do NOT miss out on the boozy pudding for dessert!
Looking for awesome live music with a cool, spacious vibe? Look no further than The Bassment, a new River North bar with trendy cocktails and lively ambience. OK so it’s not brand-brand new (it opened this past winter) but at less than a year old, it’s worth mentioning. You’ll love the comfy seating, the fantastic bands, and the exciting environment–perfect for birthday parties, bachelor/ette parties, or just a fun way to shake things up.
A new Lettuce Entertain You spot, Il Porcellino is an incredibly yummy Italian restaurant on Hubbard Street. The fun, boisterous vibe, sharable plates (make absolutely certain you order the garlic bread loaf–smothered in a garlic butter that’s made from the tears of angels), and crafty cocktails offer a fantastic place to have a girls night or a date. You’ll love the pasta dishes as well as the heavenly desserts!
Just off Michigan Avenue in the Loop, Broken English Taco Pub is a lively and vibrant casual taco restaurant and bar, with some of the most creative tacos and strongest margs I’ve ever tried. The pork belly tacos were my fave and the guac can’t be beat!
Oh Blue Door, how I love thee. This brand new Gold Coast hotspot has only been open a couple months and I’ve been back several times for their delicious fried chicken, Hummingbird Cake, fish and chips, and deviled eggs. You do not want to pass up this place–your tastebuds will thank you!
Joy District popped up this Spring and hasn’t failed me yet. Uber creative menu items and on-point service make for a fantastically trendy night out for any type of group. The tuna poke cones (think ice cream cones without ice cream) and the unbelievably delish “lollipops” (basically food on a stick–who doesn’t love that?!) make for awesome sharing dishes. And the trendy vibe just makes ya’ll feel fancy, so that’s awesome too.
So I grew up with an adorable Lebanese grandma who ALWAYS cooked delicious Mediterranean food and when Ema popped up in River North, I was stoked. The fresh, beautifully presented dishes took me back to my childhood and the breezy vibe made my experience a great one. A few faves were the lamb and beef kefta, falafel, several different spreads and bread, and tzatziki with EVERYTHING. Wow. Ema is a winner that you don’t want to pass up.
